What is the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath?

Chiropractors and Osteopaths take a holistic approach, believing that the body's systems are interconnected and that overall health can be achieved by treating the musculoskeletal system along with other body systems.

Training and Degrees:

Chiropractors hold a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree. They are trained in Medical Science similar to Medical Doctors however focus primarily on spinal and wider joint adjustments and focus on diagnosing, treating, and preventing mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, particularly the spine.

Osteopaths usually hold a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. They practise a holistic approach, treating a range of conditions by considering the body's structure and function.

Approach to Treatment:

Chiropractors mainly use spinal and joint manipulation and adjustments to correct misalignments and relieve pain. They specifically focus on mastering joint alignment but more advanced training encompasses the entire musculoskeletal system including tendons and muscles. Chiropractors focus on the fact that Musculoskeletal health over the entire body including spinal health when aligned does have a direct effect on the entire Nervous system which affects overall health and they primarily address issues by aligning joints throughout the body.

Osteopaths employ a broader, lighter touch range of manual therapies, not as focused on joint manipulation they often include stretching, massage, and manipulation of the body. They emphasise the body's musculoskeletal system and its relationship to overall health
